Your screen.
Your space.
This page describes the current Desktop Rainmaker pre-release app and the Number817 website.
Desktop Rainmaker
The app does not require an account. Preferences such as weather, size and duration are stored locally on your Mac. A saved Clear zone contains its shape, position and display identifier, not a screenshot of the area. The current app has no advertising, third-party analytics or cloud sync, and does not send app data to a server.
Optional live glass refraction
Refraction is off by default on a fresh installation. If enabled, macOS requests Screen Recording permission so the app can process the display behind the drops. Frames are processed in memory on your Mac, not saved or uploaded. No audio is captured. The app excludes its own windows from the captured image.
Turn refraction off at any time. Pause, Stop, Visuals off, selecting Confetti, session expiry and quitting also stop capture. Capture buffers are released when refraction stops. Rain works without this permission.
Pointer movement and Keep Awake
The app uses pointer position to create a local wind effect. It does not record keystrokes, click other apps or control your pointer. Keep Awake asks macOS to prevent automatic idle sleep during the selected session; it does not change saved power settings.
Your choices
You can revoke Screen Recording access in macOS Privacy & Security settings. Saved preferences remain on your Mac until the app’s local data is removed. Apple may handle system crash reports according to your macOS analytics settings.
The Number817 website
This website is served through Amazon Web Services. We do not add analytics, advertising trackers, cookies or browser storage. The interactive illustration runs in your browser and does not access your desktop or camera.
Like other web hosting services, AWS processes network information such as IP addresses and request metadata to deliver and secure the site. Access logging for this website is not enabled in our hosting configuration. AWS’s own service and security processing is governed by its policies.
Contacting support
The designated support address is support@number817.com. The mailbox is being prepared ahead of launch. Information you choose to send once it is active will be used to address your request. Do not send passwords or sensitive desktop content. We will update this page with the support-email provider and handling details when email service is configured.
Updates
This policy will be reviewed as the app and website evolve. Public release, new online services or new data practices will be reflected here.
